Who Do Men Say I Am? : A Heretic
{A heretic is a person who holds religious beliefs or opinions that are contrary to or different from those accepted as orthodox or official by a particular religion or church.}
Some might consider me a heretic because I definitely have found an understanding of God that is unmatched to the Holy Bible. Or, rather, unmatched to what is literally thought about what the Bible speaks of. I do not believe that the Bible in a literal context makes much sense for 2025. Surely, women are no longer subjected to being the stain of sin in the world. Especially, since some of the most holy miracles in the scriptures happened alongside women. And since time has moved on, we are much wiser now. We know what the customs of that time were. We even have women who hold prestigious roles within “the church”, higher than what Phebe attained.
We know that men have ultimately been the downfall of society. That’s right. Adam ate the apple, he made the covenant with God and failed. Thus, showing us how men often are not fit to lead due to (commonly overlooked in most orthodox religions) lust of the flesh. As the scriptures evolve, so does the faith and fortitude of the men in scriptural texts. That’s what happens with time, it causes you to reflect and evolve. It is God’s will that we do so beyond what is written within the bounded scriptural text we read.
Now, I’m not anti-bible. I believe that is the most powerful document ever written. It is the most profound solidification of any doctrine. It is the cornerstone to cultural foundation. And it is the best spellcaster of all time. Wanna confuse people? Push your bible knowledge down their throats. Wanna win souls? Use the poetic words of Psalms. Wanna subject people to bondage? Preach out of Leviticus and Numbers. Looking to make people scared of God? Read anything in the Old Testament, really. Intending to keep women silent? Read 1 Corinthians, 1 Timothy, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Ephesians. All of those books are sure to make any woman in today’s society a little confused and torn about how to live holy.
My point here is that just as God renewed his covenant with Israel, he is daily renewing his covenant with his children, today. Everyday, there should be something new revealed. Every morning we (his children) should be seeking holy-hood, the utopian state of consciousness that is ever evolving. We should also be realistic and understand that women, especially in the US, are more educated and are therefore much more likely to rule over men in some capacity. We should also understand the power of Mary Magdalene and her importance in Jesus’ life. We should realize that she is the most earthly vehicle used to carry out much of Jesus’ work. She is forever sacred and her proximity to his divinity, alone, makes her qualified to teach on faith and works.
I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that ancestrally or historically, women have been the lifeblood of most powerful movements since biblical times. Time has certainly evolved. Had anyone, excuse me, when anyone told Harriet Tubman she was not qualified to lead or speak, they either got a bullet or the fear of God projected towards them. And we’re not going to debate whether she was led by God. We’re not going to argue about Cleopatra, Joan of Ark or Ruth Bader Ginsburg and how their strategy, position and intellect has done God’s work over time. And I know, beyond all doubt, that my grandmothers, and greats sat at the feet of God spiritually. I have seen the works of their faith and belief. Does that mean that they were out of the will of God?
Does that mean that my belief in God’s union with the female species is over embellished? Am I overestimating the holiness of God? Not the God I pray to! The God I pray to purposefully and skillfully chose the woman to be the bearer of life. She was chosen to be the portal by which men are blessed. She is the springboard by which generations are catapulted into true wealth and order.
I cannot, in good conscience, as a believer in the Holy Spirit, believe the Holy Bible is to be taken literally. Jesus, the son of God, ate with fools. He suffered the fellowship of thieves and harlots. He stood against much of what was spoken of in the Old Testament. He would’ve been against organized religion and the haughtiness of megachurches. So, as am I. If the foundation of christianity is based upon the walk of Jesus Christ and the refusal to blindly, without the wisdom and knowledge I have acquired over years, means that I am a heretic, I will concede to that label.
I can be that with confidence. The goal of Jesus was redemption through his blood sacrifice. Therefore, I am redeemed. Not only by the words of scripture. But I am redeemed, primarily, by His spirit. As he controls all things, in my faith, I believe the many mysteries are His to reveal. Behind the veil of constriction and doctrine is sin. Behind the veil of His spirit is holiness and separation from evil.
As He leads, I will continue to follow.
